Although, I’m not yet 40 I’ve been experiencing the pull for more authenticity and the call to grab more happiness that is associated with middle age. In the end, whether we are on a healing journey or not, isn’t it what we all want – just plain unadulterated, and for many of us ever so elusive, happiness?
I am a strong believer that we all deserve it, and that it is an essential element that feeds our Soul.
Happiness is when we are aligned with our dreams
Hopefully, you haven’t forgotten what your deepest dreams are. And if so, it is never too late to remember again.
For some it’s a dream about family, others want to live with animals (who doesn’t, right), others wish to grow their own food, others yet have a calling within that they wish to fulfil.
For me, my oldest dream was of having my own house. I’ve been building card board houses and blanket forts ever since I can remember. It took a long time and a lot of hard work and courage, but finally, a few years ago, I fulfilled this dream of mine when I gave myself a 120 year old little farmhouse. It was a true homecoming.

I guess the deeper motivation was growing my roots and building up a feeling of safety. But what is also a big part of it is that aesthetics is an essential Soul need of mine. It feeds my Soul when I have pleasing surroundings, and I suffer when that is not the case.
Reconstructing an old house by myself on a small budget with a quickly progressing chronic condition has been no walk in the park, but it was so rewarding and helped me grow in ways I couldn’t foresee.
This morning I was sitting in my yard overlooking the autumn garden, watching the strings of spiderwebs spun over the low blades of grass glistening in the sun, and I just wished I could bottle up the magic and beauty of the moment and share it with all of you. These experiences nourish me on such a deep level, it feels like my heart could overflow… Once upon a time this “own house in nature” seemed like a distant and unachievable dream, and now it’s my everyday reality.

This journey has been an essential part of my healing and I’m so grateful that I headed the call. Because healing, in its true sense, isn’t just about ‘put a salve on it and be done with it’, although salves might be a part of it. Healing, if it’s meant to be sustainable, has to reach deeper layers – our heart and mind. It involves a subtle shift of our attitude to life, it needs loving care and attention to our real needs. And this is what many of us are learning.
I’m sharing this story because I want to give you a permission slip to follow your own dreams. It is so important to nourish our Soul – whether that is with dreams, poetry, music, beauty or caring for and celebrating our body.
